I think I can honestly say that I've never bought anything and just felt sick about it afterward. Aka, Buyer's Remorse. When I want something, that's it. I've justified to myself why I want it, how it fits into my lifestyle, and that's the end of discussion. It's mine. And I live happily ever after. Except this weekend went a little differently. And I experienced "Buyer's Remorse". What an awful feeling!
I knew going into the Black Friday madness, what I wanted. Who I wanted to buy for, what I was looking for and the little things that I really needed (hello, clothes for work! Black fades like crazy!). When I let myself linger a little too long in the electronics section of the papers, I told myself I deserved a camera. The one I had, I let a friend borrow and it got broken and is currently resting in peace in another country, I presume. So this made me feel like I needed the camera even more. Plus it's on sale, everyone wants one, ... me too!
When I got home (7am) and after some much needed rest, I got up and started to play around with my new fancy, pretty little camera. Then it hit me. "Why did I allow myself to spend THAT much money?!" "Is this really worth it?" "Think of ALL OF THE THINGS you can buy with that money?!" Oh my god. The worst! I felt so selfish. Hype. I bought into the hype, got carried away, and now I was having buyer's remorse.
Oh, Buyer's Remorse. Screw you. I sat around the whole day thinking about what I had done. I don't know if this is how other people feel after a big un-needed purchase? Please feel free to let me know I'm not alone!
As much as I hate returning things (read: I never do), I shamefully walked into the store yesterday and returned my camera. Weight lifted. Angels singing. Hallelujah! I felt so much better.
It's a new week now, wooosahhh! I'll try not to buy anything too crazy again.

DeleteOh no! I never make it far enough to buy anything because I get panicky before I even pull out my wallet. But I will say this -- cameras are never a bad purchase (unless you simply don't use them).
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my horsemanning post. For some reason it's not showing up on my blog, but I wanted to tell that I concur. Horsemanning at least seems clever (illusions and whatnot) whereas milking is just plain gross. As Ron Burgundy said, "Milk was a bad choice."

DeleteWell, I've gotten so use to not using a camera, that I'm not sure purchasing one is the best idea for me. Though I know I'd probably pick it right back up and get into the habit of it. I go back and forth! Haha. Until I can make a solid decision, the money will stay in my little wallet.
